Verified ReviewerVERY POOR SERVICE AND BEHAVIOR FROM REPRESENTATIVES
THEY LOVE TO DELETE REVIEWS.
Friday October 17, 2025 at around 1 pm (at the State Fair of Texas) I was at the Body Armour promotional tent, and Reliant representative, Jacob, was located next to it ( standing infront of the Reliant tent) as I was leaving. He wanted to speak with me.
However, I told him I was not interested because a young woman at another Reliant tent at the fair last year lied and said she would give me tickets if I simply spoke to her about my service and did not follow through at the end. She essentially did a bait and switch. He acted surprised and said, "She did that?" I said yes. He then claimed he would not do that to me and that if I simply spoke to him about my service he would ACTUALLY give me 25 tickets and held them up for me to see.
Furthermore, he deceitfully guaranteed me the tickets regardless of me signing up or not because he claimed he was the "manager" and therefore had the authority to do so.
WELL HE BOLDY LIED!!! He wasted 15 or more minutes of my time asking me about my provider, having me search my email for my last electric statement, grabbing my phone to look at the statement, doing calculations to show me how he could save me $2 a month (which based on his track record was probably a bold-face lie too) and then wanted to sign me up immediately. I told him I was not interested at the moment and needed time to research the company and analyze reviews, etc before deciding. He replied, "Reliant is the biggest and best company." I then decided to pull up Google reviews of Reliant while I sat there and found a customer review from someone who visited the Reliant booth at the Fair claiming he was deceived as well.
I read it out loud to Jacob. He then made up a lie that it was a different 3rd party Reliant tent, like he could actually confirm when the person who wrote the review never mentioned the name of the representative. Upon hearing my anger, due to his bait and switch, Bashir, the ACTUAL manager, came to inquire what the issue was. Bashir was essentially indifferent and didn't seem like he had managerial experience to address issues.
To make a very long story short, Reliant Energy should address your marketing representatives, overall, including those that appear at events, and based on reviews of other locations, especially in the Dallas area, ensure they are being honest because deception seems to be a commonality within your organization. Due to your numerous ruthlessly deceptive representatives, I will NEVER patronize Reliant, unless of course you are the only option left in the Universe, which would mean I had absolutely no choice.
*****UPDATE 11.4.25*****
Filed complaint BBB Case # 2405**** and on 10.27.25. I received a written response from DaKandria stating someone from Sales Quality Assurance would follow up to discuss the issue. Never received a call.
I also called DaKandria at her number provided around 3:30 pm yesterday; it went straight to voicemail. Left a voicemail with my contact and the case number and I received no response. I called this morning and I received no response as well, only rang. Furthermore, per the information you provided in your reply below, I contacted the chat line and spoke to Account Supervisor, Daphne, who was of no help.
I explained in detail why I was contacting Reliant and explained I wasn't a customer, but she didn't even read the details of my initial message and asked me questions i already answered. I asked for the Quality Assurance department's contact number or a supervisor that knows how to address the situation, and she claimed she couldn't help me. Definitely confirmed for me how poor the Reliant Customer Service is and why I will never utilize the organization. How are you a supervisor but don't know or have access to numbers for other departments.
And why are you asking me questions I already answered at the beginning because clearly you didn't read my initial response. Therefore, you are also asking irrelevant questions that don't pertain to the issue.
- Dishonesty
- Lack of accountability
- Extremely poor customer service
Preferred solution: I would like them to correct their corrupt business practices.
User's recommendation: Avoid this company!

Verified Reviewer |Predatory Practice
Today my mother, who is raising 5 children, was informed by Reliant that her bill is suddenly over $1,000.00 due to an old bill apparently missed that was owed to this company from the past. A person representing Reliant Energy knocked on my mother's door and sold her a dream that she should switch energy companies.
So, she did, only to find out what we know now, which is that Reliant Energy is a predatory utility company. They have no capacity for reason. To trick a person into joining their service with lies about how much money she will be saving only to tell that person your electricity bill is over $1,000? It should be illegal.
If someone reads this, even if it's one person, and I'm able to save that person the pain of ever dealing with Reliant, then this message would be for a purpose. Reliant Energy is a joke. They are predatory.
Do not join this energy company. You may be their next victim.
- Are predatory

I talk to a reliant rep. today, she asked for a picture of my I.D. I tried sending it to the email she provided
depositoptions@***.com, I was checking to confirm whether she had received it or not.
User's recommendation: Follow up to make sure the reps. are doing the job correctly.
Waiting for installation of lights
There has been an ongoing communication with customer service for the installation of service. There seems to be a switch on the meter.
Suggested documentation that was asked to be sent in to remove switch hold has been emailed in several plus times. This has been an ongoing issue for weeks, there has not been a resolution. I as well as family members have major health conditions.
Such as epilepsy seizures, which in my opinion hasnt been taken into consideration. This temperature reaches close to one hundred degrees.

Verified ReviewerYou owe me 27$
First of all, 'Diego' from the customer service chat was no help and repeatedly told me I was wrong about my own account when I have tons of proof of my account being a 'Pay As You Go' account. I got my electricity turned off because I no longer needed the service.
I still had $27 in that account that I expected back but instead of refunding me, you charged me $20.48 and somehow my $27 magically disappeared.
Not only did it disappear, but all of a sudden, the account was never a 'Pay As You Go', which is completely false since I would get weekly updates on my account balance - messages dating back two years which I still have. I want my money and I don't owe you anything.
Preferred solution: Full refund
Bill was so high.
Not happy at all. I feel I could have been re informed on the amount that had added up during my time with yall.

Verified ReviewerStill w/out power
We have been out of power since Thursday due to the rainstorm. Customers' three houses down on the same street are back in power, but they are on a different pole coming in from Cavalcade.
We are on the pole line coming in from Tarver St., the fuse leg always goes down behind 1410 Enid on Tarver St., pole #279094. So, how hard is it to send a technician to come out and lift the fuse back in place so that we can have power? It's straightforward.
It happens all the time, and you should have a record of this because this is not the first rodeo.
Sincerely,
Juan Herrera, customer since 1994.
Preferred solution: POWER BACK ON
Reliant are a bunch of bad actors
I have a mobile home. Live alone.
Got solar panels on my house that is new, updated all the electrical to support things by county regulation. For 1.5 years I messed with these folks to just get my accounts correct. I was not trusting of the meters at my home so I disputed the balances for that time, also there was hardly any adjustment in power usage for the panels.
In hind sight they were not calculating how much power my house was producing. Not I have gotten a new service, thank god...
User's recommendation: Check these guys out. Will take all your money

Verified Reviewer |Need emergency order for new service
I called reliant 022724 to start new service for the trailer we bought from an individual. The trailer stayed in the same place.
It had been there for 5 years. The previous owner had service through a different provider and he requested they stop billing on 2-29. So today about 9:45am my service went off. I called Centerpoint and they referred Me back to reliant.
They said since service was stopped I would need a permit from the city of Pearland and I can call reliant and explain I need an emergency order to get service on. I called Reliant and they said I have to have the permit for service which is required from city of Pearland. I called the city to get the permit and they said a master electrician would have to pull the permit because Centerpoint requires one not the city. By this time Im crying and asking for service to be turned on since only the person paying is me and Ill get whatever is needed.
Im 72 my husband is 75 and hes a partially disabled Vietnam Vet. Ive explained all of this to everyone I talked to. No luck. I called the person we bought the trailer from and he got his provider to turn his service back on.
I called reliant before the former tenant called for his service to stop I have email from reliant thanking me for being a reliant customer. I dont understand what I did wrong. If I was told on the 27th I needed a permit I would have gladly gotten one so I would have uninterrupted service. Im very pissed and will not recommend reliant to anyone.
I was very happy after placing my order on the 27th. I sent them a copy of my id and they were happy. Now today I no longer have service. I was given conflicting answers as to what had to be done.
You shouldnt treat anyone like this especially a senior citizen. Heartless and uncaring.
- Large company with to much red tape

Verified ReviewerDead trees that could fall on power lines
I contacted AEP as the Reliant agent suggested. I spoke with AEP and was told they would have someone contact me within three days to assess the situation.
That conversation was on Monday. This is Saturday and still, nothing from AEP.
Preferred solution: Dead trees removed before they fall on power lines
Complaint
I called to ask about my rates because I felt that my rate had increased. The representative told me that I'm on a month-to-month plan and then she said that I'm on a contract.
If I cancel, they will charge me $295. She didn't even bother to help find another plan that would work better for me.
Their rates and customer service really suck. Watch out for their contracts.
Preferred solution: Lower rate
User's recommendation: Don’t go there.
Powerline down in my yard
Tree has fallen in my yard and it broke my powerline. Broken powerline is just waving in the wind.looks
No power
Still without power when other part of same neighborhood is with power.
Get on Centerpoint to complete neighborhoods.
